Our UNIVERSO CABLE LIGHTING SYSTEM is a low-voltage open conductor system featuring the finest quality and selection of contemporary cable lighting fixtures available today. Manufactured by precision craftsmen in our Swiss facility, this premium collection of lighting fixtures embodies the essence of modern contemporary design. From the elegant yet minimalist Gaya pendant to the stylishly sophisticated Orbit spot, the Universo system is as handsome as it is versatile, offering solutions to fit every lighting application.

The Universo system was created with the ideas of subtlety and understatement serving as the primary design focus. The ultimate goal was to imagine a system that would not overwhelm but instead minimalistically enhance its surroundings with just the right stylistic application of light. To achieve this goal, the system's low profile cables were designed to be deceptively inconspicuous to the point that they allow fixtures to appear as if floating in midair. The resulting effect is not only breathtaking but also decidedly more dramatic in achieving accent and task lighting objectives than conventional track systems, which are almost intrusive (from a design standpoint) in comparison.

A Universo system consists of two or more cables suspended either horizontally or vertically between insulating brackets attached to the wall or ceiling. The distance between the cables is generally 5.9 inches. Fixtures are either suspended from (pendants) or between (spots) the two cables by various means at any point along the system. Our cables consist of thousands of tinned copper strands wound delicately around a Kevlar core, insuring maximum strength and conductivity.

Since Universo is a 12 Volt system, a low-voltage transformer must be connected between the 120 Volt power source and the low-voltage cables. The transformer can be either surface mounted or remote mounted. Power is transferred from the secondary side of the transformer to the system cables via flexible insulated powerfeed cables equal in size to the diameter of the system cables. If the transformer is to be remote mounted, the powerfeed cables can be introduced through a decorative canopy that covers a standard 4" electrical junction box in the wall or ceiling.

Specification Guide:
A typical UNIVERSO CABLE LIGHTING SYSTEM should include one or more of the following components:

  • Transformer (12V) (300W)
  • Powerfeed
  • Cable (per pair ft)
  • Fixture
  • Cable Brackets
  • Connectors (Conductive/Non-Conductive)
  • Suspension Supports (Ceiling or Wall)
  • Standoffs (to change direction of cable run)
  • Lamp
Power is supplied to the cable run by three different means: a, a surface mounted transformer is mounted over a standard 4" junction box and the flexible powerfeed cables are connected to the main cables; b, a remote mounted transformer is connected to the main cables via a decorative 5" dia canopy that mounts over a standard 4" junction box; c, a remote mounted transformer is connected to the main cables via electrified cable brackets (only possible if wall or ceiling is non-conductive electrically).

Universo cables are field-cuttable and available by the pair ft. A ceiling suspension support should be used for runs over 25 ft in length.

Like all 12 Volt systems, the National Electrical Code limits the wattage load on a Universo cable run to 300 Watts per circuit. For larger loads, additional 12V circuits can be combined on the same cable run through the use of non-conductive cable connectors. In other words, for each 12V circuit added to the system, an additional 300 Watts would become available. Note: An extra 300W transformer and powerfeed would be necessary for the addition of each 12V circuit.

UNIVERSO CABLE LIGHTING SYSTEM is fully certified by ETL as safe for indoor use and should be installed by a qualified electrical contractor according to National Electrical Code guidelines.
